Work starts on my Daughters Bedroom!

Well, I've been wanting to do something to my daughters room for some time now... finally I got started!!! It's a decent size room, nothing too big. However she had the queen bed in there and it was taking up ALL the floor space that she had! Her 7th birthday is coming up this weekend and I thought it was time to get her a new quilt and give her some pretty big girl colors. She wants hot pink, bright green and blue... you know all the colors that make my cringe! I was afraid she would have it look like a circus in there! I've been looking at different quilts and duvets on Pottery Barn, but couldn't decide. Check out what I've done so far...

This is her old duvet cover from Target. It's the shabby chic line... I love it, but it's a little worn out now! She's had it on her bed since she was 3, so it was time for a change. This is the queen bed, it will soon take a ride to the guest room! Note the paint colors on the wall next to the window! Hmmm... what color to go with???

Well here it is... I LOVE IT!!! I found this quilt at Target! They have the best stuff!!! I put this on her bed while she was at school.

As you can see... she LOVES it too! We moved it to my bedroom to see it with the wedgewood grey walls. i really do love the colors together (pic looks a little more blue). I think maybe a shade or two lighter. I really did NOT want to use the same color on the walls as our room though... ANY SUGGESTIONS???

After cleaning out (aka... throwing out) a ton of stuff from her room, I moved the bed from my sons room over. It's a full size... lots more floor space. Moved some furniture around and decided to call it a day! I will be doing a lot more to this room... so stay tuned! We are trying to come up with a wall color now. I just don't want anything bright on the walls since there is already a lot going on. I would be very open to suggestions from any of you! Thanks for looking!

My New Master Bedroom Re-Do!

Well it took me what seems like FOREVER to get my master bedroom where I want it... but it was totally worth the wait! Here is the post for last year that shows what my room looked like before. I have not taken pics of my bathroom yet... you can get a tiny sneak peak in some of the pics ;-)

The color is Benjamin Moore Wedgewood Grey. I hope you enjoyed my pics, be sure to keep looking back for bathroom pics coming soon! I'm also going to post pics of my laundry room that I completely re-did. This year I have a lot of TO DO items... like my children's rooms! Thanks for looking!

Black Door Make Over!

Alright, so back in October I decided that I NEEDED to paint my back door! It is bright white and it gets so dirty with the kiddos running through and the dog lying next to it! However, I wanted to try something different. I wanted it BLACK! I had already painted the front doors black and it completely transformed my foyer! Well here it is...

Ahhh... black door is so much warmer and cleaner! I LOVE it!!!

Now I know this is a super short post, so let me give you a hint of what's coming. Below are some pictures I took a while back of my master bedroom. I HATED the colors! It was so cold in there! Well I've posted some pics of it's original look because I'm going to show you tomorrow what it looks like NOW!!! Here they are in ALL their glory....

Picture Wall

Well, this was the only picture I could find that showed what the wall originally looked like! I did take some pics of the steps to my new picture wall, but I caught my sweet 3 year old deleting pics off my iphone! OOPS!!! Anyway, here it is...

Original wall in the foyer. Just a framed photo of the older two (before the youngest was born) with some decorative wall hangers on either side and a small round granite top table under.

Now, my photo wall with some older ladder back chairs and decorative pillows! All of the frames and letter were multiple colors. I just spray painted them all the match! Also if you look closely you can see the frame on the top is framing out my alarm motion sensor. I had to work around it, but I think it's really cute!

I like that a few of my frames can be changed out for the different holidays or time of the year. I also like changing up the pillows. These pics were taken during Christmas obviously, but I'm already looking forward to some cute Valentines pillows for February!!!

The Evolution of a Boring Hallway!

Well our hallway has been through some changes since we moved in our house 6.5 year ago! It can be seen from our den, so it has always been one of those walls that drove me crazy trying to figure out!

This was the way it looked in the beginning. Carpet on the floors, plain paint on the walls (Blonde from SW) and pics of the kids on wall. Not bad, just blah!

A couple of summers ago, we decided to put hardwood in the hallway upstairs. It made a huge difference!

This past October I knew something had to change. The long expansive wall of Blonde paint was getting on my nerves! So I decided instead of changing the entire wall color to add stripes! I ran across the idea from Emily A. Clark. If you haven't checked out her blog... she is amazing!

Here is another shot of the hallway. I think it helps draw your eye down the entire hall! However, there was still one thing missing...

A New Striped Shower Curtain

So I am totally into stripes these days! Can't get enough of them! I've seen a few other blogs where they used stripes on rugs, curtains and dressers. I thought I could find some fabric I likes and could sew some up. Well... I'm very frugal... I don't like to spend a lot of money on things that I may already have, haha! Anyway, I remembered that I had a plain white twin flat sheet that we used when we had the other beds up. Well, here is what I came up with...

Here is the before... not bad, I'm just over it!!! I really wanted something taller!

Here is my sheet during the lines. I just taped the lines on as I went. Very easy and NOT perfect!

Here it is just after I hung it. I just cut holes in the top for the curtain rings to fit. You could use clips, but this is what I already had!

Not the best pictures, but I used a red ribbon as a tie back and I LOVE it! I've had so many compliments on it already... who knew only a twin sheet and some paint!!!

Merry Christmas from our Family to Yours!

Well I've added some fun pics of my family from Christmas!

Here we are putting food out for the reindeers to find our house! Notice we are all barefoot or wearing socks only!

My kids were in HEAVEN! My husband, brother in law, grown sisters and my mother were too, but I'll spare them and you from their pics!!!

Hello everyone, it seems like it's been FOREVER! I did abandon my blog for a little bit, life just got in the way. I am sorry to those of you who were following me. I would like to show you all what I've been up to lately... I've started making pillowcase dresses and selling them! My daughter and her friends LOVE them so I thought other little ones would enjoy them too. I opened an Etsy account and listed them! We will see how it goes, but I'm excited and I love making them. Fondant Cake for team party!

It was my sons team party and I thought I would use my creativeness to make a fondant cake for them! Remember, I'm no pastry chef or cake boss, LOL! I just love making them. I decided to cut out the shapes of their jerseys and write their names and numbers on them. It turned out GREAT because each child had the piece with their jersey, haha!

What to do with an ugly frame and a busted woopie cushion?

What would a normal person do with an ugly oak colored frame and a busted woopie cushion? Probably throw them in the trash, luckily for my wallet, I'm not normal!

I spray painted the frame with a black satan. Then I glued the woopie cushion to a piece of scrapbook paper and put it in the frame. I'm pretty sure the frame wasn't even completely dry yet, haha! I needed some more Halloween decorations in the house! Anyway, everyone LOVES it and so do I! Plus, you can't beat the price... FREE!!!

Make Over Craigslist Bar Stools

I bought a set of stools on Craigslist for $10. They were in pretty rough shape, but I had big plans for them!

The first reveal... not very pretty!

Step one: I spray painted them satin black

Step Two: I added a foam top. I had 2 square ones from a previous stool, so I reused them.

Step Three: I attached the foam with spray adhesive and trimmed down the foam pad to fit on the top.

Step Four: I covered the foam with a new fabric I bought at Hobby Lobby for only $6 a yard.

I love the way they turned out and the kids love them too!

I have thought about doing something cool like this for a while, but I wasn't ready for such a drastic change. Then I saw a blog that had changed their white door black and it looked AWESOME! So I mentioned it to the hubby and he said, do it! That's all it took for me to run right out to HD and buy the semi-gloss black paint! And the rest is history...

I love the way it turned out. I know it's hard to get a full idea of the way they look, but they have completely transformed my foyer!

Glider Transformation!

So here is my original glider that my mom bought us when we had our first baby, almost 6 years ago. It used to be plain tan, but I already put a slipcover on it and redid the arm rests a few months ago. It was not getting any use, so I decided to put it in our formal living room/office. However, it didn't look too great in the room! I really can not afford to go buy a new chair, so I got creative! Actually I googled it and I ran across an awesome blog here, where a lady had already done this and I copied her idea, LOL!

So here is where I get very creative and use what I already have. Instead of getting the proper board as the original blog mentioned, I used a cardboard box for the back and an old Remax sign for the arms. I know this is sooo crazy, but it really doesn't get used a lot, it really just has to look good, haha!

Here it is... the finished product! I know it's not perfect, but neither am I! I couldn't find all the thread from my sewing machine (kids probably hid it somewhere), so I hot glued the entire slipcover together inside out. The slipcover by the way is two twin flat sheets. Obviously I will have to really sew this one day, but for now, it's just what I wanted!

Ugly Outdated Armoire gets a Pretty Pink Facelift!

When my husband and I moved into our home, we were given this very unpleasant 80's brown armoire. We were more than appreciative since we had 5 bedrooms to fill and we only had a 3 month old daughter! It has made it's way around the house from room to room, finally ending in our master bedroom for a couple of years. Recently, I decided to move it to our daughters room, since she really needed the storage for all of her clothes! My husband told me to chunk it, LOL! He hated it!!! I looked around for a new one and decided I could fix this ugly thing!!! Well, here is what I did...

First step, destroy my bathroom and paint a coat of primer on.

After the coat of Kilz white primer. This was not pretty at all! I started having my doubts at this point, but I kept going.

After a coat of soft pink paint. This paint was in my garage, it was the color of our daughters first nursery in our old house, so clearly it has special meaning to me!

Next step, I glazed the entire thing with RL tobacco (my favorite thing these days).

The Finished Product!!! I added some cute ribbon pulls to soften the look. I stole this adorable idea from another blog, PERFECT!

Trim around my guest bathroom mirror!

Alright, I have seen so many bloggers do this project! I finally decided to stop looking at it and do my own. I chose to do the guest bathroom on the main level of our home, because it is the most used of all bathrooms. I see it so many times a day and I thought it really needed some dressing up. I recently painted this bathroom the dark brown (SW Hopsack) and I LOVE it! I bought two pieces of unfinished wood trim strips from HD. I painted them with Killz first then I did a glaze finish with RL Tobacco. To hang the trim pieces I used double sided velcro, it worked like a charm!

Here is the before picture of the bathroom mirror. Please don't mind the smudges!

This was my starting point, the corner.

Second, I added the bottom piece, pretty hard to mess that one up.

Third, I added the sides to form a giant U shape.

The final look! I really am happy with it! It has completely finished my bathroom! Thank you to all the bloggers out there who inspired me to do this!

New look for my dining room, FREE!!!

A few months ago I was looking on Craigslist and found a FREE hutch. It was the top of a little girls desk in it's previous life. Well, it was free and I was able to talk my husband into picking it up!!! Of course he thought I was nuts, but that's alright, it wasn't costing him any money, just time.

Here is the before picture of the hutch. It was the ugliest yellow color wood I have ever seen! However, it had great bones. Nice trim and nice bead board on the back, I was happy!

The first thing I did, which you can't see in this pic, I added decorative feet to the bottom. I cut out a notch on each corner of the front with a hand saw and screwed the new 6 inch legs in. Totally changes the look!

This is after I painted two coats of flat black paint and two coats of white primer on the inside. I had just started the antique tobacco glaze.

This is the top, I'm painting it to match the bead board inside. I found that painting the glaze on with a sponge brush worked the best for this!

The finished product, with my free shutters from CL and some things I bought from Goodwill. I love the way it turned out in my dining room, it makes a HUGE difference! And, my husband is happy too, woohoo, HOME RUN!!!

New look for the upstairs hallway!

Here is where it all started! I wanted to put something upstairs in the hallway and I didn't want to spend any money! Seems impossible to most, but NOT to me! Anyway, I went searching for things to use. I came across this very old frame that held a pic of my flag corp from high school. It was still wrapped up from my move to Georgia for COLLEGE!!! It was time to find a new purpose for it!

It was the worst looking wood frame ever! I'm sure I bought it from the dollar store many moons ago.

I actually didn't mind the gold crackle finish on the inside of the frame, so I taped it off before I spray painted it.

I printed a verse on scrapbook paper and taped it inside the frame.

Price My Space Party at the Nesting Place

Today I am participating in The Nesters Price my Space Party!!! I thought this would be fun and I've never done anything like this before. I'm a totally new blogger and haven't done much on my blog in a few weeks. Well here goes...
I have decided to show my Master Bedroom and Master Bathroom. It is still a work in progress! I'm not wild about ALL the gold and neutral tones in these rooms, but I can't decide what to do with it. Feel free to offer any suggestions, I'm totally open!

This is the view when you walk in from the hall. My bed is our big splurge for sure! We bought this bed before we had kids from Pottery Barn. It was about $1200. I can't believe I ever spent that on a BED!!! The side table are also Pottery Barn, they were about $250 each. The barn star I got from Real Deals and paid $25 for it. The lamps are from Kirklands, both for $15. My bedding is from Bed, Bath and Beyond, it was $99 for the bed in a bag!

We found this dresser in the clearance section of American Signature for $200. The elephant wall art is from Bombay Company, I'm not sure exactly how much it was, probably $15 each. On my dresser are pictures of the kids, my dad as a child and me as a child. Also in the center is my very special jewelry box. It's the box my husband wrapped up for me one year for Christmas... I opened it to find a ring box that read "will you marry me?"

This is the not so pretty side of my room! This very ugly armoir was given to us for free when we moved in our house. I just took the doors off last week to try to give it a new look, you can still see the doors leaning against it. You can also see the paint colors I have next to the door, trying to make up my mind!

This is the glider and ottoman that were in all three of my children's rooms when they were babies. I re-covered it with some chair covers that I found in the garage. The chair was a gift to us when my daughter was born. The slip cover cost was $10. The table is just a simple wooden table for $10 and a cover. The top cover is the blanket that went to the moses basket that my children used. The pillows I already had and the small one, I recovered an old pillow with some left over fabric from the kitchen window treatments.

This is the sitting area. You can see the window mistreatments in this picture. I have 4 windows and a door to cover, so I had to get creative and CHEAP! I used one gold silk panel from Target on the top, $15 and a tablecloth for the bottom, $10.

The decorations on my fireplace are just things I have found around the house. The mirror was a find from TJ Max for $10, the candle holders are from Kirklands for $15 and the small flower arrangement is one of the decorations from our wedding reception.

This is a close up of my vanity. The vase on far left is from Real Deals, it was $11, the picture frame holding my sweet baby is from Goodwill, it was $1. The cross reads the serenity prayer, it was $4 from Hobby Lobby and the cute little lamp is from Hobby Lobby too, it was $7 (50% sale) woohoo!

This is the door going into my closet. I had an extra tablecloth, so I thought it would soften the space. It was $10.

Here is another window mistreatment! One gold silk panel from Target for $15 and a gold sheer for $5. I'm not sure where I bought the decoration in the corner of the tub, but the pics on the wall are from Kirklands, they were only $10 for all three.

Here is my vanity, I've already priced the things on here in a previous picture. All the rugs in my bathroom and my bedroom are from Real Deals and were pretty cheap, not sure exact prices.

I had to find something to put up here, it just looked so boring. I went digging around in closets and found some flowers, a wooded medalian thingy and this vase that my husband picked out YEARS AGO. The vase was $20 at Real Deals and he loved it!

Well, they have to find some before pics, but these are amazing! Before, there was carpet through the den and the hallways and light colored tile in the kitchen and breakfast room. NOW, there is dark terracotta tile through the entire kitchen, breakfast room, den and both hallways, WOW! Dad you did a great job installing this and Lori, you did a great job picking it out. They also painted every wall and added an accent wall in the den with a dark color. Now all they need is some help from ME with window mistreatments!!! Sounds like a GREAT EXCUSE to go to Orlando!!! Awesome job guys!

Kitchen gets a facelift!!!

Alright, these are some before pics of our kitchen with the bright white pantry door and trim! We had our kitchen painted last summer this very awesome warm gold color (Mannered Gold - SW). Ever since we had it painted, the pantry door just seemed to jump out at you, almost begging for some attention!

While visiting a friends house last week for a play date with the kids I noticed how awesome her pantry door looked painted the same as the wall, so I thought I would give it a shot! We already had the extra paint left over so it was one of those "free projects"!!! Well after painted the door and the trim (which was way more work than I had originally anticipated) I thought it would look really good with a glaze in the creases. Thanks to my awesome hubby, it turned out great! He did all the glazing and it is perfect!!!

My first mistreated windows

This was so much fun. This is my kitchen window and back door. I had the worst curtains hanging in there for years, because I had them from our last home and I thought it was better than nothing. Well looking back, I’m not sure that it was better than nothing, because they were UGLY!! Anyway, I only had a little time and an even smaller amount of money to spend. So I loaded all three kids up and went to Walmart. I saw these curtains that I really liked, so I bought just one panel for 14.99. I cut it and used it over my sink and on my back door. I still had enough left over to revamp my other windows in the breakfast room! More on those mistreatments coming later. All of this was done with the help of my hot glue gun for the nice hem and upholstery tacks to hang. So easy and super cheap!!!

My First Blog EVER!!!

Well somehow while having babies, blogging became the thing to do! I never really got it, didn't get what the big deal was. Now I can't stop reading blogs!!! I love reading other blogs, especially the ones about decorating your house without spending a lot of money! As I mentioned, I have kids, 3 of them to be exact. So spending a lot of money on anything is out of the question. Like everyone, I enjoy having my house together and looking nice, I just have to do it on a TIGHT BUDGET! I have found some great blogs out there that I just love and can't get enough of! I have done a lot of little projects that I have learned on different blogs that I want to share with others. I hope to inspire others like I have been inspired! Just know that you don't have to have a lot of money to have great style! Remember this is my first blog, so please cut me some slack, LOL!
